Jeep launches Name My Ride contest for the 2012 Grand Cherokee
The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee needs a name, and the Chrysler Group is prepared to give one lucky fan a new, freshly named Jeep in the online Jeep “Name My Ride” contest. The fan who comes up with the best name for Jeep’s flagship SUV will drive away with a new car in May.
Nameless Jeep Grand Cherokee makes auto show debut
The Chrysler Group recently unveiled the all-black concept for the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee at auto shows in Houston, Texas, and Washington D.C. From the start, presenters made it clear that it was going to be up to the public to give the redesign of Jeep’s flagship SUV a name. The winner will be announced in May.
Participants can visit www.jeep.com/namemyride to participate in the contest.
The Grand Cherokee concept sported a platinum-chrome front end with mesh grille, black gloss exterior treatments and glossy black 20-inch wheels. These features distinguish it from older Grand Cherokee stylings, as do the black headlamp bezels and lift gate light bar. As a whole, Chrysler appears to have taken a more menacing stylistic path with the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

An edgier Grand Cherokee
Jeep Brand CEO Mike Manley said in a statement that wants to bring the noise with the 2012 Grand Cherokee. He also said he wants to hear some noise from the public as to what they think of the new style.
“Our new Grand Cherokee concept provides a completely new look — one that is edgy and aggressive and certainly different than any Grand Cherokee on the road today,” he said.
While there is currently no guarantee that the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee will resemble the concept model, Manley noted that enough positive feedback will all but guarantee the release.
Jeep sales on a roll
In 2011, Jeep sold 419,349 units in the U.S., reports the Chicago Tribune. That was a 44 percent increase over the previous year, a sign of big things to come. Of those sold last year, 127,744 were Grand Cherokees, a 51 percent increase over 2010.
Manley is confident the new trim package will bring in customers.
“Jeep enthusiasts have always appreciated limited-edition models and the ability to customize their vehicles,” he said.
