Car Deal Expert is an independent UK motoring publication that helps drivers buy cars and run them for less. We cover the parts of car ownership that cost real money and cause real confusion: buying a new or used car, car finance, salary-sacrifice electric vehicles, and car insurance. Our job is to translate a complicated, jargon-heavy market into clear, practical guidance you can act on with confidence.

Important: Car Deal Expert publishes journalism and general consumer information. We do not provide regulated financial advice, and we are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Any figures, rates or example monthly costs we quote are illustrative and for general guidance only. Before you take out car finance, a salary-sacrifice arrangement or an insurance policy, confirm the details with the lender, provider or an FCA-authorised adviser who can assess your individual circumstances.

Our mission

The motor trade is built on information asymmetry. Dealers, lenders and insurers understand the numbers far better than the people signing the paperwork, and that gap is where buyers lose money. We exist to close it. Every guide, explainer and news story we publish is shaped by one test: does this help the reader make a better, cheaper, lower-risk decision? If the answer is no, we don’t run it.

We write for the person comparing a PCP deal against a personal loan at the kitchen table, the employee weighing up a salary-sacrifice EV against keeping their old car, and the driver staring at a renewal quote that has jumped by hundreds of pounds. Those are the moments our coverage is designed for.

What we cover

  • Car buying. How to negotiate, what a fair price looks like, new versus used, and the traps to avoid at the dealership and online.
  • Car finance. PCP, HP, personal loans and leasing explained in plain English, including how APR, deposits, balloon payments and mileage limits actually affect what you pay.
  • Salary-sacrifice EVs. How company electric-car schemes work, the Benefit-in-Kind tax position, who benefits most, and where the catches are.
  • Car insurance. How premiums are calculated, how to bring renewal quotes down legitimately, and how to compare cover rather than just headline price.

We are a UK publication, written for UK drivers. Our prices are in pounds sterling, our tax and finance guidance reflects UK rules, and our consumer-rights coverage is grounded in UK law and regulation.

Our editorial team

Our coverage is organised around specialist desks, each led by an editor with responsibility for accuracy in their area:

  • David Holloway — Finance and Salary-Sacrifice Editor, covering car finance, leasing and company EV schemes.
  • Emma Whittaker — Insurance and Running-Costs Editor, covering car insurance and the real cost of ownership.
  • Sarah Chen — Used Buyer’s Guide Editor, covering used-car buying, comparisons and dealer tactics.
  • Michael Harrison — News Editor, covering market, regulatory and industry developments that affect UK drivers.

Work is reviewed by our Editorial Board before publication, and our News, Reviews, Buying Guides and How-To desks coordinate coverage across the site. You can read more about how we research, verify and correct our work in our Editorial Standards.

Our independence

Editorial decisions at Car Deal Expert are made independently of our commercial partners. No advertiser, lender, insurer or affiliate programme can buy a recommendation, change a verdict, or influence how we report a story. The wall between editorial and commercial is the most important thing we have, because it is the only reason our guidance is worth reading.

How we are funded

Car Deal Expert is free to read. We are funded by advertising and by affiliate commissions: when you click through to a partner — for example a finance broker, insurer or comparison service — and take out a product, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Those commissions never determine what we recommend. We explain exactly how this works in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Our standards

Every article is researched and written by our editorial team. We work from primary and authoritative sources — manufacturer data, regulator guidance, lender and insurer documentation, market pricing and first-hand reporting — and we check the facts against those sources before anything is published. We label uncertainty honestly, attribute our evidence, and correct material errors openly. Our full approach is set out in our Editorial Standards and Corrections Policy.
