Classic cars and memorabilia come to Las Vegas in September
From September 22-24, the Barrett-Jackson automobile auction will be open for bids in Las Vegas. A name that makes classic car enthusiasts drool, Barrett-Jackson is an auction like no other. Eschewing the typical down-to-business marketplace atmosphere of most such sales, the festive celebration draws car lovers like honey draws bees.
A chance meeting in 1963
Russ Jackson and Tom Barrett, two car buffs, met in Scottsdale, Ariz. in 1963. Barrett answered Jackson’s ad to sell his 1933 Cadillac V16 Town Car. That deal never came to fruition, but a lifelong friendship and collaboration began. Now, 48 year years later, their collaboration has changed the nature of the automobile auction. Once the domain of dealers and wealthy collectors, a Barrett-Jackson auction is a family event that draws crowds from across the nation and around the world.
Ford’s final muscle car masterpiece
The September event is headlined by a 1971 Ford Mustang Boss 351 Hatchback, the car maker’s final muscle car masterpiece. Also featured is the vintage 1954 Buick Roadmaster 2 Door Hardtop, immortalized in the classic TV commercial in which a father wakes up on Christmas day to find it parked in the driveway, wrapped in a bow.
An array of classics
Other featured classics on display will be two 1969 Chevy Camaro 2 door custom coupes, one back and one blue, a vintage brown 1939 Ford Custom roadster, a luxurious black 1940 Cadillac series 40 convertible, and a striking 1932 Ford custom coupe, emblazoned with lapping yellow flames. And that is just the tip of the iceberg in a list of lots that will leave classic car buffs with their tongues on the floor.
Automobile memorabilia
The event will also feature an unparalleled collection of automobile memorabilia. An animated Ford V8 neon sign from the 1930s, a service station candy vending machine from the 1930s with bakelite knobs, a 1940s Mobil Oil Pegasus sign with animated neon, a 1935 Polly Gasoline service station pump restored to mint condition and more than 300 other impossible-to-find collectibles will be on display and open for bids.
