This December, General Motors Co. wants Walt Disney World-goers to take to the track. Guests will be able to experience a redesigned Test Track Presented by Chevrolet, a joint venture between General Motors and Walt Disney Imagineers. Interactive driving – and designing – fun awaits!

Test Track reopens Dec. 6

At Disney’s Epcot Center Future World pavilion in Florida, Test Track is the product of months of design work. Technicians and designers from GM and Disney have been hard at work to make Test Track even more of a “professional design studio” that will place riders in the thick of the auto design process.

“At Chevrolet, the diversity of talent on our team allows us to consistently produce sophisticated, refined and detailed design — but we don’t typically design through the eyes of a 12-year-old,” said GM design manager of global exhibit and merchandising design, Jeff Mylenek. “Working with Walt Disney Imagineering, we were inspired to see our brand story from a more youthful perspective and really opened the parameters on how to approach this design challenge.”

Test Track is set to reopen to the public at Disney World Orlando on Dec. 6. Test Track has been closed since April 2012 in order to accommodate the renovations.

Test Track marks multi-year alliance

General Motors Co. and Walt Disney have joined into a multi-year alliance that should result in numerous rides and attractions that draw Walt Disney World visitors into the full automotive experience, from design and production to the joy of hitting the open road. The GM Test Track gives park patrons a unique look into exactly what automotive design engineers go through when they make and test new vehicle designs. This includes tests on difficult, winding roads with hairpin turns, rough roads and more.

Hurtling forward on the Test Track

Renovations to the ride focus more on the creation of virtual concept vehicles, and riders will run those through the many types of tests designers use to put vehicles through their paces. Once the test drive is complete, riders will receive feedback on how their vehicle design fared, and then have the option of sharing the results through online social media like Facebook and Twitter.

According to reports, Test Track is the fastest ride at Walt Disney World, hitting speeds of 65 miles per hour.

“The actual ride time is four minutes, but there’s plenty of pre-show and post-show entertainment and activities,” said Walt Disney World Resort PR director Todd Heiden.
