The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced this morning that it will be launching an investigation into sticky accelerator pedals in 2007 Dodge Caliber vehicles. Both Dodge and the NHTSA have confirmed that no property damage, accidents or injuries have resulted from the sticky pedal issue.
NHTSA received Dodge Caliber pedal complaints
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announcement said that they would be “reviewing” the “potential sticky accelerator pedal” problem. There have been five consumer reports to the NHTSA about this problem. The Dodge Caliber is equipped with a brake override system. This means that if any driver behind the wheel of the Dodge Caliber experiences a sticky accelerator pedal, they are still able to stop the vehicle.

CTS Corporation, a company in Indiana, manufactured the accelerator pedals in the 2007 Dodge Caliber. CTS corporation also manufactured the accelerator pedals that have been implicated in numerous Toyota recalls. Despite the concern about sticky gas pedals, CTS shares have risen in the last few days. There is no word yet on whether the faulty pedals that were installed in the Toyota and Dodge vehicles were installed in any other cars.
Dodge Calibers included in the investigation
There has been no recall of the 2007 model year Dodge Caliber. The NHTSA investigation will cover about 161,000 Dodge Calibers manufactured in the 2007 model year. Dodge Motor Company says it has narrowed the sticky gas pedal problem down to about 10,000 Dodge Calibers manufactured during March and April of 2006. The investigation may lead to a recall of Dodge Caliber model vehicles. This investigation is based on the purely mechanical problem of the gas pedal – not an electrical or design issue.
Have a 2007 Dodge Caliber?
If you have a 2007 model year Dodge Caliber, you don’t have to wait for the NHTSA investigation to conclude. Chrysler Group, owner of Dodge, is offering free pedal inspections. If you have had a problem with a sticky gas pedal, you should report the issue to the NHTSA. This will ensure the issue will be included in the investigation.
